Mozambique: Malaria killed 16 since January in Tete province
Pope Francis’s visit to Portugal will be of great interest to Mozambican Catholics and his message listened to with great attention, bishop of Beira Dom Claudio Dalla Zuanna has said.
The bishop of Mozambique’s second largest city said the visit of Pope Francis to the shrine of Fatima would find an echo among the Mozambican Catholic community, who were greatly devoted to the sanctuary.
“All Mozambican dioceses have a shrine dedicated to Fatima and the pope’s visit will reinforce Catholics’ devotion to her,” he said.
According to Cláudio Dalla Zuanna, the historical and emotional ties between the two countries will make Pope Francis’s visit of to Portugal symbolically and spiritually a visit to Mozambique.
The Pope visits Portugal on May 12 and 13, and will visit the shrine of Fatima to mark the centenary of the 1917 Cova da Iria visions.
Francis will be the fourth pope to visit the shrine, following Paul VI, John Paul II and Benedict XVI.
The pope will be in Portugal for less than 24 hours and will meet President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, and Prime Minister António Costa.
