Mozambique: Three thousand units of blood expected
FILE - For illustration purposes only.
The community of Hluhluwe, in northern Kwazulu Natal, has declared a truce until the 10th of February (next Saturday) for the circulation of vehicles with Mozambican number plates, but not even the South African police authorities are in a position to guarantee the protection of anyone who dares to travel that route, because the climate is tense, Domingo reports.
To illustrate just how tense the environment in the area is, the incident involving the Consul General of Mozambique in Johannesburg, who is in also charge of the Durban region. Guilherme Tamele, was threatened with kidnapping by members of the community, during a meeting promoted by the South African National Police Command, headed by South Africa’s Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola, when they learned that he was Mozambican.
The spontaneous idea of taking the Consul hostage in the Kwamduku Community Hall would, , according to representatives of that community, be aimed at “forcing” the Mozambican authorities to speed up the return of vehicles which had allegedly been stolen in the area.
Fortunately, the local police authorities present managed to lower the temperature, hold the meeting and leave with the consul general alive and in good health, despite the scare.
