The two Mozambican extra parliamentary parties announced unconditional support for Renamo in the upcoming elections in Mozambique, arguing that unity is the only way to remove Frelimo from power.
These are the Party for Peace, Democracy and Development (PDD), led by Raúl Domingos, and the Independent Party of Mozambique (PIMO), presided by Yaqub Sibindi.
Sibindi, who is reportedly a nephew to the late Renamo leader Afonso Dhlakama, has participated in virtually every presidential election held in Mozambique, and said that it is necessary for the opposition to unite and face Frelimo in the upcoming elections.
The PIMO leader pointed out that “an opposition electoral front against Frelimo will be the only way to win the elections, bringing the alternation of power” in Mozambique.
It should be noted that in the past they have been attemps to support Renamo, through a coalition of the opposition against Frelimo, which were unsuccessful due to lack of harmony between the parties.
For Raúl Domingos, only when the political parties are united will it be possible to remove Frelimo from power and to continue with the policy of democracy, which is intended to be effective.
