Mozambique police still have no leads on the cause of death of the two teachers found dead in a car submerged in a stream in Matola’s Belo Horizonte neighbourhood on Saturday.
The two university professors had been missing for almost two weeks, and a social networking campaign had been launched by family and friends to locate them. But it was only last Saturday that their bodies were found in a stream in Boane municipality.
Police admit they do not know what happened. “We went to the scene after residents in the area told us about a car submerged in the water. Two bodies were found and removed. We performed an autopsy, but to date we do not know what caused these two citizens’ deaths,” a police spokesman said. Police said that the two bodies did not show any sign of assault.
According to the brother of one of the victims, the family last had contact with the two teachers on March 19, and their bodies were only found twelve days later.
