Police chief Júlio Jane this week announced a significant reduction in the number of traffic stops on national roads and tourist routes, to prevent drivers being submitted to tiresome and routine inspections.
Speaking this week at the launch of ‘Operation Salama’, Jane said that ‘Free Pass’ [“Livre-trânsito] cards were being given to drivers crossing Mozambican borders so that they would not be subject to repeated monitoring. Driver will display the card to indicate that they have already been inspected.
“This measure will stop motorists being repeatedly checked for the same thing. A first inspection when the driver enters the national territory will suffice, and the ‘Free Pass’ card will give him/her the right not to be re-inspected.
This process will ensure greater mobility of people and goods,” he explained.
