A deputy inspector in the Mozambican police shot a woman in the city of Beira over a debt of 70 meticais (about €1.00), a corporation spokesman in Sofala province has announced.
The incident took place on Saturday in the Munhava neighbourhood, on the outskirts of the city. The victim was shot in the leg after an argument over payment of a debt of 70 meticais to a family member of the Mozambican police sub-inspector involved.
“It is necessary to underline that the [police] agent was not on duty that day,” Sofala province police spokesman Daniel Macuacua said on Monday after visiting the victim in hospital in Beira.
