Mozambique: Mine halts activities following terrorist raid
Folha de Maputo
Six suspected armed robbers were killed by the Mozambique Police in Maputo’s Zimpeto neighbourhood yesterday evening
According to the police, the six were members of a gang who were wanted in connection with robberies from cars and commercial establishments.
The gang was neutralised during a robbery of a shop belonging to a Portuguese citizen in Zimpeto.
Police say they surprised the gang in the course of the assault. Upon realising the police presence, the group attempted to escape in a mini-bus stolen about a week ago in Maputo, a police source said.
The police pursued the group into one of the streets off the EN1 in Matola, where an exchange of shots left six “meliantes” dead and two on the run.
Police say they found an AK47 and a pistol in the minibus.
