The General Commander of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM), Jorge Khalau, said today that the body will this year undertake a “purification of the ranks”, and warning “undisciplined police” to change their conduct.
Khalau made his statements in a speech at the PRM command in the capital. Members of the Mozambican police, Khalau said, must be motivated by intolerance of crime, but still act within the law.
“We will remain vigilant to the actions of our police, call unruly police to attention for collaborating with criminals and renting out. guns. We will purify the ranks,” he said.
Khalau urged traffic police to educate motorists and the public, using punitive measures only where there was need.
“We want your conduct to be guided by civility and education, not always justified by a fine,” he said.
Khalau congratulating the police and members of his audience on the overall tranquility of the end-of-year transition.
