Police have seized 24 packets of cocaine from a Congolese man at Mavalane International Airport in Maputo
According to a police statement quoted by AIM, the seizure occurred some days ago when the suspect arrived on a TAP flight. Police officers suspected that the man was carrying drugs in his body and took him to Maputo Central Hospital where he was X-rayed and the drugs found.
On the same day, the police arrested a Kenyan citizen boarding an Ethiopia Airlines flight carrying 5.44 kg of the same drug.
Protests in Chibuto
The police news bulletin for the period 9th to 15th of this month, also notes that in Mudumeia village, Chibuto district, Gaza province, a group of protesters barricaded the road to the Chibuto heavy sands project, which operated by the Chinese company, Anhui Foreign Economic Construction Group.
The group is contesting the delimitation between the mining area and their vegetable plots, as well as the payment of indemnities agreed when the area was granted, forcing the police to intervene to restore public order.
The Chibuto heavy sands project occupies an area of 10,544 hectares and has an ilmenite deposit estimated at 108 million tons.
Cabo Delgado
Regarding the attacks carried out by armed men in the province of Cabo Delgado, a police spokesman said that “the operational and preventive actions intended to secure a climate of public order, security and tranquillity, continue, especially in districts once targeted by atypical criminal acts”.

In the same period, the police seized nine firearms, including two AK-47s, five pistols, one Mauser pistol and a shotgun, with 148 rounds of ammunition and four AK-47 rounds.
With regard to road fatalities, there were 35 road accidents against 26 in the same period of 2017. These accidents resulted in 26 deaths (against 17 of the same period last year), with 33 seriously injured and 37 with lighter injuries.
The police registered 110 occurrences of sundry criminal behaviour, against 154 in the same period of last year, a fall of 44 cases.
