The Tourist Police and the Immigration Police have arrested a Mozambican criminal wanted for ransom and murder charges on the Interpol’s red list.
The Deputy Tourist Police Commissioner, Pol Maj Gen Surachet Hakpal, said police have arrested Mozambique national Momade Assif Abdul Satar, wanted by the Interpol as a prime suspect in more than 50 ransom cases.
The suspect was nabbed in a hotel in Bangkok after the Interpol had coordinated with the Thai police since early July. He has been living in exile for three years and is reported to have been involved in a crime syndicate which kidnapped several businessmen in Mozambique and other African countries for ransom, with two of the victims being killed.
Investigation shows the suspect used a fake passport and his brother’s credentials to travel into Thailand. He will now face legal action and will be deported back to his country of origin to face prosecution.

Mozambique’s criminal wanted on Interpol’s red notice arrested
A Mozambican national wanted on Interpol’s red notice for a string of violent crimes in his home country has been arrested in Bangkok after 3 years on the run.
Mr Momade Assif Abdul Satar was apprehended at a condominium room on Soi Sukhumvit 57 on July 25, said Tourist Police Bureau deputy comissioner Pol Maj Gen Surachate Hakparn during a press conference on July 29.
The 35-year-old suspect was wanted in Mozambique and other southern African countries for abductions for ransom, murders and illegal firearms possession.
Mozambique had coordinated with Interpol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to hunt down the suspect. He had fled his country three years ago.
While fleeing, the man, who was the leader of an underworld gang, continued to commit crimes by ordering his associates to abduct people running businesses in Mozambique for ransoms. In each crime, the underworld gang demanded US$3,000,000 or about 100 million baht in ransom or the victim would be killed if the ransom was not paid. Two victims had been murdered, said Pol Maj Gen Surachate.
