Power problems are hampering the functioning of Polana Canico hospital in Maputo, with recurrent power cuts and the failure of the generator threatening patient care and limiting clinical and therapeutic activities.
The governor of Maputo, Iolanda Cintura, visited the hospital on Friday, having publicly expressed her discontent with the hospital’s performance.
During her visit, she said that “the government will work with the hospital management in order to solve these problems”.
Hospital Administrator Fenias Mainga said that he reported the generator breakdown to the competent authorities more than six months ago, and that power failures constituted a serious problem especially when patients needed surgery.
