The civil movement Plataforma DECIDE has called for South Africa’s (SA) intervention in the ongoing post-election violence in Mozambique, citing SA’s strong stance on human rights.
The movement has written a letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa, urging him to intervene in the impasse that has followed the October elections.
In the letter, Plataforma DECIDE highlighted numerous irregularities that marred the October elections and accused the Mozambican Constitutional Council of violating the Organic Law of the Constitutional Council.
The movement claims that the Council’s decision goes against all laws and has contributed to the current unrest.
Executive Director of Plataforma DECIDE, Wilker Dias, elaborated on the situation, emphasizing the need for South Africa’s involvement.
“We think SA is one country that defends human rights and the truth in this whole process. We have given that letter to President Ramaphosa, hoping he will take a position and discuss Mozambique in Parliament. Just as SA has taken a stance on the Gaza conflict with Israel and Palestine, we are neighbouring countries with different problems, but on a large scale as well,” Dias stated.
Civil society in Mozambique today submitted a request for the South African President @CyrilRamaphosa and @ParliamentofRSA to intervene in the case of Mozambique.

topics that could go before the South African Parliament, at the request of Mozambican civil society, similar to what happened in Israel and due to the fact that the number of victims shot by the police includes citizens of South African nationality.
