The Mozambican government intends to scrap salaries for members of provincial assemblies and instead pay attendance fees for participation in assembly sessions.
The proposal has already prompted great controversy and promises to further “stir up the waters” in the near future.
Those targeted claim that the executive is deceived in its reasoning, and that this intention, if put into practice, will be a violation of the decentralisation law.
