The Pequenos Libombos reservoir, which supplies the cities of Maputo, Matola and the town of Boane, did not reach a satisfactory level during the rainy season, which means that the restrictions on water supply will continue.
According to the dams’ bulletin published by the National Directorate for Water Resources Management, the reservoir recorded a slight rise in water, from 19 percent of its full capacity, at the beginning of the rains, to 28 percent at the end of the rainy season.
According to the same source, this corresponds to 112 million cubic meters, an unsatisfactory volume to meet 100 percent of the water supply needs in Maputo, Matola and Boane.
Nevertheless, the current scenario is not the same as the situation recorded in the dam in the 2015/2016, rainy season when there were practically no inflows due to drought.
