Sheik Bacar Saíde, who had been reportedly kidnapped last Friday in the city of Pemba, Cabo Delgado province, has been released. ‘Carta de Moçambique’ learned on Tuesday that the religious leader had been freed on Sunday after being questioned by the Defence and Security Forces (FDS).
Sources claim that Sheik Bacar Saíde had been taken by the Rapid Intervention Unit (UIR) after his new neighbours in Pemba, supposedly misunderstanding his lifestyle, reported him.
According to ‘Carta’ sources, asked during the interrogation about his source of income, Saíde allegedly replied that he was a National Social Security System pensioner. Sources add that the FDS had also captured three other people living with Sheik Bacar Saíde who have been released too.
