SAMIM Head of Mission Support Mr Shikongo Shikongo officially opened the training program for European Union ( EU) donated equipment on the 07 August 2023 at the Forças Armadas de Defesa de Moçambique (FADM) Naval Base in Pemba Cabo Delgado Province.
The training program which is phased saw the beginning of training of boat operators where twelve boat operators from FADM and four from SAMIM began a familiarization training on the donated boats from the EU.
SAMIM has received the first batch of two boats with six expected in the mission area in October 2023.
The official opening of the training program was also graced by the FADM representative Comodore Sidonia Fiosse Massangaie who welcomed the guests and trainees at the Naval Harbour with the Squadron Commander of the Pemba Naval Base giving a vote of thanks. The Head of Mission Support expressed gratitude to the strategic partners for their continued support to SAMIM on FADM’s capacitation program. He highlighted that the training will go a long way in enhancing the local military’s capability, most importantly as the boats will be handed over to FADM at the conclusion of the mission.
The Mission continues to work closely with partners, other stakeholders and The Republic of Mozambique to capacitate the local security forces and enhance structures to guarantee return to normalcy for the people of Cabo Delgado. SAMIM Forces would like to assure the people of Mozambique and SADC region of a collective commitment to achieving a peaceful, stable and secure Cabo Delgado as envisioned by The Republic of Mozambique and SADC.
