The Frelimo political party delivered a check for four million meticais to the National Institute for Disaster Management (INGC) in Pemba this Thursday.
The amount, the result of contributions of members of the party in support of victims of insecurity in northern districts of Cabo Delgado, was delivered by the Frelimo secretary-general.
Roque Silva said the amount would help minimize the needs of the families in a difficult situation because of the actions of armed men.
Accepting the donation, INGC general director Luísa Meque said that the money would increase the institution’s capacity for intervention in emergencies.
“Today, we are witnessing an act that once again demonstrates that this party is walking with us and with the Mozambican people in this process of managing disasters in the country, and the amount we have just received will help us better assist the needy,” Meque said.
The donation was witnessed by the Secretary of State in the province and the governor of Cabo Delgado.
“The Frelimo party is always with us, in happy and in difficult times,” Governor of Cabo Delgado Valige Tauabo said.
The Secretary of State in the province thanked Frelimo for the gesture and promised to see that the donation reached the needy.
According to official statistics, since 2017, about 162,000 people have been forced to leave their areas of origin due to the terrorist attacks. Most of them are in Pemba, the provincial capital, one of the few areas considered relatively safe.
In addition to the financial donation for the victims of the attacks, Frelimo delivered 40,000 masks and various other hygiene materials in response to the request launched by the Ministry of Health for support for Cabo Delgado, the Mozambican province with the highest number of Covid -19 cases.
