Hollard Mozambique announces winners of Hollard Better Future Awards

The young writer Pedro Pereira Lopes has won the Casa da Moeda (INCM) Eugénio Lisboa literary prize with his book ‘mundo grave’ [Serious World]-
António Manna was awarded an honourable mention for his ‘Bebi do Zambeze’ [I Drank from the Zambeze].
Both works will be presented tomorrow, April 17th, at the Camões – Portuguese Cultural Centre in Maputo.
After reading a message from the patron of the prize, Eugénio Lisboa, the writer Ungulani Ba Ka Khosa, in his capacity as jury president, will present Manna’s ‘Bebi do Zambeze’, while Duarte Azinheira, director of the edition unit of INCM will introduce ‘mundo grave’.
The actress Assucena Daniel will read excerpts from both volumes in a presentation featuring the musician Zé Maria.
The jury of the first INCM Eugénio Lisboa Prize, comprising the writer Ungulani Ba Ka Khosa, the academic Teresa Manjate and the director of the Camões – Portuguese Cultural Centre in Maputo, Alexandra Pinho, award the prize to Pedro Pereira Lopes for exploring a genre little known in Mozambique, and combining the police and the fantastic. The jury emphasised the work’s linguistic correctness, coherence and cohesion.
The richness of the imagery explored by the author of ‘Bebi do Zambeze’ earned it its honourable mention.
The prize was established in 2017 by the National Press – Casa da Moeda (INCM), with the support of Camões, and is intended to reward unpublished prose works by Mozambican authors. The INCM/Eugénio Lisboa Prize includes publishing the winning work, plus a EUR 5,000 cash prize.
