Pastor arrested for sexual abuse of 8-year-old in Gondola

A pastor of the Johanne Marange Apostolic Church has been detained in the Gondola district of Manica province for “marrying” an eight-year-old girl, with whom he had been living for a month, making her his third wife.
The defendant has been charged with a child sexual abuse.
While the accused confirms the fact of the marriage, he says that he was given the child by her parents.
“I bought backpacks, capulanas and many other things, and went to her house to talk to her parents,” he said.
The child’s father denies that he gave her up in marriage and says he only permitted his daughter to accompany him to the church.
“He came to ask if the child could go with him to the church. As for the rest, everything else that is being said here is a lie, I swear to God,” the father says.
While the two are in detention, medical examinations are being conducted to see if the child is in good health.
