A Toyota Hiace Townace van, registration MMS 36-38, was wrecked by a passenger train at about 4:30 p.m. yesterday on the Daniel level crossing in Tsalala, Matola municipality.
According to Jornal Notícias, the van was heading towards Malhampsene/Kilometre 15, and the train was on the Ressano Garcia route from Maputo. The two occupants of the van fled shortly before the impact, which propelled the open van about 150 metres down the line.
The van was carrying a construction machine rented from Hire All, a company operating from National Road Number Four (EN4).
Both vehicles remained in place at 6:00 p.m. yesterday, while railway personnel determined whether or not there was damage to the line.
