Journalist Salomao Moyana yesterday argued for the indefinite suspension of mediators’ participation in Mozambique’s peace talks until the government and Renamo reach an understanding on how they intend to advance the process.
“We should suspend mediation indefinitely until the parties reach an agreement on how they want to take this process forward,” Moyana is quoted by Lusa as saying.
According to the same source, Moyana said that the agenda of the talks, including the opposition party’s demand to govern the six provinces where it claims 2014 election victory and the government’s requirement for Renamo’s disarmament, suggests that the process will take a long time to show results.
Solomao Moyana was speaking in Maputo at a conference on the political situation in Mozambique promoted by the non-governmental organization, the Institute for Multiparty Democracy.
