Mozambique political agreement signatories want election results within 72 hours
The Assembly of the Republic has decided to extend the “mini vacation” it has been enjoying until July 10th. Formally, the IX Ordinary Session should have ended on 23 May, but there are still 12 matters to be considered, not including the peace dossier and the final State of the Nation report of Filipe Nyusi’s first term in office.
The final session of the legislature, which was adjourned at the end of May, should have resumed today, Wednesday July 3.
However, the “House of the People” reported in a press release that the “mini-holidays”are extended until next July 10, because the deputies “are still working in their respective constituencies in fulfilment of the political agenda”.
The IX Ordinary Session began on 28 February and 30 subjects were due to be considered and voted on by 23 May. At the time of suspension, 18 items on the agenda had been considered.
In addition to the matters scheduled, the plenary session will host for the last time Filipe Nyusi who will, probably in August, deliver the final report of his first term as President of the Republic.
It is also expected that the Plenary of the Assembly of the Republic will, sometime before the 15 October elections, consider and endorse the third Peace Agreement.
