The Standing Commission of the Assembly of the Republic (CPAR) has decided to create a Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) to investigate the alleged involvement of a deputy from Magna Casa do Povo in drug trafficking.
The decision comes in the wake of information conveyed in a plenary session of the Assembly of the Republic on December 1, 2022, by deputy Venâncio Mondlane, rapporteur of the Renamo parliamentary bench.
Mondlane accused a deputy of involvement in drug trafficking through the port of Macuse, Zambézia province.
“The CPI is created to verify the veracity of the information presented by Deputy Venâncio Mondlane, on the alleged involvement of a parliamentary deputy in drug trafficking, using the port of Macuse, province of Zambézia,” reads Article 1 of the CPAR resolution creating the Commission of Inquiry.
The CPI is made up of seven deputies from the three benches with seats in parliament. According to AIM, these deputies are António Niquice (chairman), António Namburete (rapporteur), António Boene, Jovial Setina da Cruz, Nerina Bustani, António Muchanga and Fernando Bismarque.
The decision was taken in Maputo yesterday during the XL Extraordinary Session of the Standing Commission of the Assembly of the Republic.
