The Commission on Constitutional Affairs, Human Rights and Legality does not recommend the election of António Jorge Frangoulis [who had been proposed by RENAMO] to the position of Counsellor of the Constitutional Council (CC).
In a document that O País had seen, the first commission of the Assembly of the Republic states:
“Given the fact that the candidate António Jorge Frangoulis has not presented a medical certificate of physical fitness and his public posture, the deputies of the three parliamentary benches represented in the Commission on Constitutional Affairs, Human Rights and Legality, namely FRELIMO, RENAMO and the MDM, do not recommend his election, given the nature of the Constitutional Council as a guardian of the moral authority of the Constitution.”
In the same document, the Commission states that it recommends the election as members of the Constitutional Council of candidates Albino Augusto Nhacassa, Dr Domingos Herminio Cintura, Dr Mateus Cecilia Feniasse Saize and Dr Albano Macie, as reputable, honest and meritorious individuals whose processes and procedures of candidacy do not suffer from any vice that obstructs their election.
Politician Antonio Frangoulis was proposed as a member of the Constitutional Council by Renamo and, along with the other candidates, was heard this Tuesday by the first committee. The election of candidates is scheduled for this Wednesday.
