Maj Gen Emmy Ruvusha hands over command responsibilities of Rwanda Security Forces in Cabo Delgado
A married couple (identified as Pedro Sixpence and Glória Manuel) were recently arrested in Manica district and charged with beating their 11-year-old son to death.
According to the detainees, they beat their son for allegedly stealing MT300 from house guests. The victim’s grandfather told reporters that neighbours overheard the child’s cry for help and attempted to intervene. When they were unable to stop the couple from beating their child, one neighbour handed over MT300 of his own money in exchange for the child’s safety.
The coupled agreed to stop beating the young boy and the neighbours left. However, as soon as they were alone, the couple went back to beating their son.
Sixpence told the PRM that the beating was intended to punish the child and teach him a lesson.
The child died a short time thereafter.
According to the PRM, as soon as the couple realised that their son was dead, they hid his body in a nearby cave. The
young boy’s body was later discovered by neighbours.
