Paratus Mozambique, the leading telecoms and network services provider, has sponsored one of the Mozambican competitors Faisal Hassan and his partner Helder Simao at the inaugural Federation of International Padel event in South Africa. This milestone tournament brought together players from 19 countries, including Spain, Portugal, Italy, and France and the sponsorship demonstrates how Paratus Mozambique is giving local sportspeople a chance to compete on the international stage.
Representing Mozambique, the players Faisal and Helder competed alongside some of the world’s best, including two-time world champions. Their participation included an exhibition match at the Qurtuba Club with 12 selected players, a practice session at the tournament venue, and a competitive match against South Africa’s top-ranked pair, Zaid Patel and Riyad Motani.
Despite losing 0–6, 4–6, the Mozambican players delivered a spirited performance and held their own in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment. Competing at an altitude of 1,700 metres presented unexpected challenges, with thinner air and faster ball speeds affecting their usual game play but it also gave them some good experience in adapting to different conditions.
Country Manager of Paratus Mozambique, Rui Costa said: “In supporting Mozambiquan players in this international event, we get to see their determination and skill on the court and it is exactly this kind of potential we want to encourage. Sponsoring their participation is about more than sport — it is about giving Mozambicans a platform to grow, connect, and succeed globally. This aligns with our broader mission to invest in people who are ready to lead the way, both in sport and in life.”
