The Red Cross of Mozambique said on Monday in Maputo that support from its partners that had stopped due to financial crisis are now resuming, making its capacity stronger to deliver humanitarian assistance.
“Recently, we had a meeting with partners and we registered new partners willing to support Red Cross Mozambique,” said Director of Institutional Development and Resources of the Red Cross of Mozambique Cristina Uamusse.
“There was a good participation of partners and this is a positive indicator,” she said. “We are hopeful that we will recover.”
According to Cristina, Red Cross Belgium has already pledged its support while Red Cross Italy and Red Cross Finland expressed their interest to resume the injection of funds to Red Cross Mozambique.
At the moment, Red Cross activities in Mozambique are supported by its counterparts from Spain and Germany, who have been continued operating in Mozambique despite the international crisis that affected several countries.
As Mozambique enters the rainy season, the Red Cross held a meeting to evaluate its capacity to provide assistance to the country’s vulnerable groups such as orphans, the disabled, and families headed by women.
