Over 12,000 head of cattle will be vaccinated in 14 districts of the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado by the end of August against anthrax, nodular dermatitis, brucellosis and tuberculosis.
Cited in the Saturday’s issue of the daily “Noticias”, Álvaro Mucache, provincial head of the department, announced that the number of head of cattle to be vaccinated by the end of this year is up from 11,552 last year. He said that new breeders have been reported in the province, although with small herds.
According to Mucache, three of the existing 17 districts in the province will not be covered by the campaign, namely Muidumbe, Mueda and Meluco since they do not breed cattle.
This vaccination campaign, said Mucahe, seeks to prevent and eradicate diseases which affect cattle and protect consumers.
Mucache expressed his concern with problems of transport and degradation of access roads to the breeding areas which could compromise the targets.
“We also lament the lack of organization among the breeders. What happens is that some of them fail to organize cattle vaccination record book in due time to facilitate the work of the vaccination brigades. We need these record books to check previous vaccines”, he explained.
