Mozambique: Immigration authorities boost capacity during festive season
“Ensuring greater convenience for national citizens and foreign tourists who will cross Mozambique’s land borders during the Easter period ahead was the motto for the launch this Thursday of “Operation Easter 2021”, in a ceremony led by Deputy Director-General of Customs, Inocêncio Mota.
During Easter holidays this year, 150,263 visitors are expected to enter Mozambique, a reduction when compared to 225,296 registered last year. This scenario is due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which demands greater border control.
“This year’s Easter period is taking place under the spectre of the Covid-19 pandemic. This will require from all, but especially from the health authorities, redoubled efforts to prevent that border posts and roads become the foci of contagion and the spreaders of this disease,” said Mota, urging agents to share experiences from previous operations.
“Operation Easter 2021″will be carried out by a joint team of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM), the Tax Authority (AT), the National Migration Service (SENAMI), the National Institute of Land Transport (INATTER), the National Public Salvation Service (SENSAP) and the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.
