One person has died and several more have been injured during the compulsory removal of people in Olinda-Inhassunge, Jornal Txopela reports on its Facebook page
One person was killed by a Mozambican police Rapid Intervention Unit on Sunday morning in the Chirimane locality, Olinda village, in the Inhassunge district of Zambezia province, the report says.
The government of Zambézia reportedly dispatched a contingent of 60 armed men on Friday to conduct what Txopela calls “an operation to intimidate people into abandoning their land to allow the exploitation of heavy sands by the Chinese firm Africa Great Wall”.
According to the same source, “the occupation of the mining site by paramilitary forces on Friday excited mixed reactions including demanding the reason for such a warlike display, the UIR responding with bullets that mortally wounded one citizen and injured seven more.”
Residents of the area have refused to implement the [mining and resettlement] project because they consider it harmful to the environment and says it will not improve life in the area. Zambezia governor Abdul Razak vowed to respect the will of the population at the time.
District administrator João Raiva told Txopela that he was unaware of the matter and declined to comment further, claiming that he did not have authorisation to speak to the press and referring them on to police provincial command.

Uma pessoa foi barbaramente assassinada pela Unidade de Intervenção Rápida na manhã deste domingo na localidade de Chirimane, povoado de Olinda distrito de Inhassunge na Zambezia.
O governo da Zambézia despachou um contigente de 60 homens armados está sexta-feira que encontra-se numa operação de intimidação da população para o abandono das suas terras para dar lugar ao projecto de exploração de areias pesadas pela firma chinesa Africa Great Wall
A ocupação das forças paramilitares no local de exploração do mineiro desde está sexta-feira criou um misto de reações que levaram a população a questionar os agentes o motivo daquela musculatura bélica naquela circunscrição, a UIR respondeu com balas que atingiram mortalmente um cidadão e um número de 7 encontram se feridas.
A população residente naquela circunscrição geográfica recusou a implementação do projecto por considerar nefasto para o ambiente e os benefícios não se traduzirem na melhoria de vida na zona. Abdul Razak jurou respeitar a vontade da população na ocasião.
O administrador do distrito João Raiva diz que desconhece o assunto e declina prestar mais declarações. O comandante distrital remeteu o assunto ao Comando Provincial da PRM alegando não possuir autorização para falar à imprensa sobre o assunto.
