OMM to hold events to celebrate 50 years of existence

The Mozambican Women’s Organization (OMM) is to hold sporting events, literary contests, and traditional dances, with exclusive participation of women, as a way of celebrating the 50 years of the organization’s existence.

The women’s organization of the ruling party in Mozambique, Frelimo, is also encouraged to give educational lectures to women on the occasion.

In a message alluding to OMM’s golden jubilee celebrated today, Frelimo says that the organization is always ready to provide solidarity and support to Mozambicans, including health and civic education, as well as in the fight against the evils that still prevail in the country.

“In this moment of the Golden Jubilee festivities, Frelimo sends OMM its gratitude,” the message reads.

Frelimo said that OMM has a preponderant role in its entire process, especially participation in activities such as voter registration. “The involvement of all is a patriotic duty,” it remarks.

Frelimo recognizes the dignified position that women occupy, thanks to their victorious engagement in sectors of activity such as education, health, agriculture, livestock, industry, trade, services, civil aviation, transport, defence and security, media, public service, diplomacy and family care.

Frelimo pays a unique homage to the young pioneers of the OMM, who with their fertile intelligence created the Women’s Detachment, the military arm of OMM in the national liberation struggle.

The trajectory of the OMM and the history of liberation and construction of Mozambique are, according to Frelimo, “two faces of the most beautiful pearl that the Mozambican woman and the beloved motherland possess”.

Founded on March 16, 1973, the OMM aims to value all Mozambican women with gallantry, imagination, struggle and action, for their having known how to build independence and actively participate in the liberation fight of Mozambique.
