The approval by the Council of Ministers of ENI’s Coral South offshore LNG development plan will result in the creation of 820 new jobs.
The Coral South Project Development Plan, to be implemented this year by ENI East Africa, is located in area 4 of the Rovuma Basin, and will initially extract 4.7 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, producing 3.37 trillion cubic feet of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The approved plan constitutes only the first phase. It is estimated that area 4 of the Rovuma Basin holds reserves of about 15.65 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. Projects exploiting the remaining natural gas in the Coral reservoir and its liquefaction will be subject to specific development plans to be approved by the government in due course.
The approval of this plan will kick-start development in the north of the country through the implementation of basic infrastructure to support the operation of the floating LNG platform.
Of the 820 jobs, 90 percent will be filled by Mozambicans professionally trained for the purpose.
