Machava Maternity Centre has been without water since last Friday (August 3), meaning new-born infants have gone spend 24 hours without their first bath.
Sandra, who became a mother for the first time on Saturday night, says that the maternity ward does not have the water to meet the hygiene needs of the postpartum period.
There was no water for her, much less for the child who has just come into the world.
“We had to use a cloth to clean the baby because there was no water coming out of the taps here since yesterday,” she added.
The same situation affects another mother who is having her third child, and remembers the different treatment her first two had after being born.
Patients say they have had to buy water for consumption outside the health centre, because the hospital unit was dry.
