Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi on Wednesday assured representatives of Mozambican communities abroad that “we are not neglecting the incessant search for sustainable and lasting solutions for an effective peace”.
He was speaking at the traditional end of year meeting with representatives of the Mozambican diaspora.
“Our commitment to the Mozambican people remains our greatest priority, and is expressed in the Government’s Five Year Programme for 2015-2019”, he said. “Every time our attention and our resources are diverted could be a serious setback in carrying out this programme which answers the longings of all Mozambicans”.
Nyusi invited his guests “to embark on this undertaking of fighting against poverty and dependence, through the local production of the essential goods we need”.
That would be possible, he told them, “if you bank on investment in Mozambique or in searching for other investments for the various priority areas. But it is also possible to achieve this goal by empowering the establishment of favourable partnerships”.
Nyusi urged the emigrants to give a positive picture of Mozambique in the places where they now live, and to keep their foreign currency savings in Mozambican banks “which will make our economy more robust’.
He pledged that the government will work to ensure the well-being of Mozambican emigrants in the countries hosting them. To this end, identification documents were being facilitated for the emigrants, and the government was working to legalise the presence of Mozambicans currently living illegally in countries such as South Africa, Tanzania and Kenya.
