The fourth and last day of President Nyusi’s working visit to the province of Inhambane was marked by a visit to the city of Maxixe, where the head of state inaugurated a docking pier rehabilitated with Japanese support of over 36 million meticais (about US$605,000).
The jetty serves more than 3,000 commuters a day who use some 30 boats to travel between the city of Inhambane to Maxixe.
After visiting the new dock, President Nyusi formal delivered it to the community. The Japanese embassy professes itself pleased to see the end result of their support, and users say they are now crossing safely.
Before the inauguration, President Nyusi visited Macuamene, where he spoke to farmers who produce vegetables and cereals, and fish farmers cultivate tilapia in tanks. The president then led a popular rally, and heard residents’ complaints about water, energy and crime.
In Inhambane, Filipe Nyusi has visited the Govuro, Massinga, Homoine and Maxixe districts.
