The Mozambican head of state, Filipe Nyusi, congratulated French president-elect Emanuel Macron on Monday in a message emphasising his willingness to boost bilateral relations.
“Your election is unmistakable testimony to the confidence the French place in your vision and leadership skills,” President Nyusi said in a congratulatory message addressed to Macron and seen by Lusa.
The Mozambican president recalled meeting Macron in July 2015 during a visit to France, adding that he hoped the intention to boost bilateral cooperation, expressed at the time by both parties, would remain alive.
“France is one of our country’s main development partners,” he said.
For Nyusi, Macron assumes the leadership of France at a time when the country and the European continent as a whole faces “huge challenges” at the political, economic and social levels.
Emmanuel Macron was elected president of France on Sunday, beating his far-right rival, Marine Le Pen.
