Mozambique: Foreign tourist revenue expected to hit $391.9 million by 2029

The number of foreign tourists visiting Mozambique’s natural and built heritage tripled in just one year, surpassing 14,000 in 2023, according to the annual report by the National Institute of Statistics.
The report indicates that Mozambique’s natural and built heritage was visited by 4,652 foreigners in 2022, a figure that increased by 200% last year, reaching 14,340.
More than half of the total visitors were concentrated in three locations in the Mozambican capital.
In 2023, Maputo Fortress welcomed a total of 4,054 foreign visitors, the National Railway Museum of Mozambique 4,211, and the Natural History Museum 3,270.
Meanwhile, the number of Mozambican citizens visiting the country’s natural and built heritage nearly doubled, rising from 58,507 in 2022 to 111,179 last year. Among Mozambican visitors, the Maputo Zoo, a space in decline, still received 36,218 visitors, leading the rankings, followed by the Natural History Museum of Maputo with 29,321.
