This Thursday, the Mozambican government for the first time addressed the disappearance of Rwandan journalist Ntamuhanga Cassien, who has been missing for about three weeks.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MINEC) said through its spokesman that it had learned of Cassien’s disappearance, giving assurances that the case is under police investigation.
“We learned about the disappearance of this person, but we, as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, do not have much to say at the moment, because the case is being investigated by the police – in particular, by the Criminal Investigation Service [SERNIC) – and only once their inquiry is finished can we make a statement,” MINEC spokesman António Muchave said.
The authorities have confirmed that Cassien is officially in Mozambique, and has been granted refugee status by the competent authorities.
