Norway will finance 25 community radio stations in Mozambique with 21 million Norwegian kroner (€1.8 million), through the community radio project (CRP) implemented by h2n, a Mozambican non-governmental organisation.
“The CRP IV project will be implemented over four years, focusing on promoting access to information, active participation of communities, inclusion of people with disabilities and digital transformation,” the association said in a statement on Thursday.
According to h2n, more than 250 journalists will be trained during the implementation of the project.
The NGO highlighted that 25 community radios located in Maputo, Nampula and Cabo Delgado provinces will be strengthened, in strategic areas “to achieve a comprehensive and positive impact”.
The agreement for the implementation of the fourth phase of the h2n Community Radio Project was signed in Maputo on Wednesday, with the participation of the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway in Mozambique and members of the management of the NGO implementing it.
“The new contract represents a significant milestone in the ongoing collaboration between h2n and the Norwegian Embassy, consolidating their mutual commitment to expanding access to information and strengthening the sustainability of community radio in Mozambique,” the statement added.
In turn, Ambassador Haakon Gram-Johannessen highlighted that the project aligns with Norway’s foreign policy, aiming to democratise access to information and promote community engagement, especially among young people: “This project is aligned with Norway’s foreign policy and commitment to leave no one behind.”
The h2n Community Radio Project was created in 2017 and has already benefited more than 30 community radio stations across Mozambique.
