The president of the Committee on Constitutional Affairs, Human Rights and Legality, Edson Macuácua, on Sunday reiterated that there is no mass grave containing more than one hundred bodies in Macossa district of Manica province.
“There is no mass grave containing more than one hundred bodies in Macossa district,”
Macuácua said after visiting the village of Tropa, where eleven bodies in an advanced state of decomposition were found.
Macuácua said that the commission came to the conclusion after extensive interviews with members of the district government, community leaders and residents.
He expressed regret over the actions of the unknown individuals responsible for eleven bodies still unburied under a bridge over the river Mbinganhama on the border of Gorongosa and Macossa districts in Sofala and Manica respectively.
The head of the Macossa administration José Valeta also denies the existence of any mass grave, confirming only the presence of the eleven bodies and of armed Renamo men in the vicinity.
Valeta said that the presence of armed Renamo men in Tropa had caused the flight of many residents, including community leaders.
