Independent UK / An alert issued by French police immediately after the Paris attacks
Mozambican police say they have no evidence that Salah Abdeslam, one of the ringleaders of the Paris terrorist attacks on 13 November last year, had been in Mozambique.
Speaking yesterday in Maputo at the regular weekly news briefing, police spokesman Inacio Dina also revealed that the corporation had not received any request from Interpol, and had only learned of the matter through social and media networks.
“There is no evidence indicating that this individual was ever in the country. Neither was there any request from Interpol on the matter,” Dina said.
Some media outlets had maintained that Salah Abdeslam frequented the Dolce Vita bar in the Mozambican capital after social networks reported that Dolce Vita employees had recognized him from photographs in the international press and on television.
“All that the police know about the matter, they learned through social networks and the media. Police took the information seriously and undertook investigations, which have not given any indication of it being founded,” Dina said.
The main suspect of the Paris attacks was arrested in Molenbeek neighbourhood on the outskirts of Brussels, prompting a series of deadly attacks in the city last week.
