Former president Armando Emílio Guebuza was present at the official ceremony of 43 years of independence yesterday.
Guebuza said that, in the past, there were no heroes who could look themselves in the mirror and say there were enough universities and secondary schools to fulfill the dream of independence and achieve development.
The former statesman was worried about the attacks in Cabo Delgado. “There is no country that grows without enemies. In the past, the enemies were the settlers associated with apartheid,” he said, adding that the criminal act showed that there were still enemies of the country, and that the government would find solutions to the adversities.
Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosário repeated the head of state’s words on the need to continue the disarmament process, and condemned the violence in Cabo Delgado, saying that the population would remain vigilant, with the help of national defense forces.
