Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have made it to the quarter-finals of the Women’s Afrobasket tournament taking place in Côte d’Ivoire.
On Monday, they beat Mozambique 60-55 in their last Group D match at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan.
Earlier on Saturday, D’Tigress had a strong start to the tournament by beating Rwanda 92-45 in their first game.
But the match against Mozambique was more difficult. D’Tigress had a slow start and were behind 13-9 at the end of the first quarter.
By halftime, Mozambique were still ahead with a score of 28-24.
After the break, Nigeria’s head coach Rena Wakama encouraged her team, and they showed more energy in the third quarter. D’Tigress closed the gap and were only one point behind at 43-42 by the end of the third quarter.
In the final quarter, Nigeria took full control of the game and completed a strong comeback to win by 5 points.
Ezinne Kalu was the team’s top performer with 16 points, three rebounds, and four assists. Promise Amukamara added 13 points, and Musa Murjanatu scored 12.
