Students in at least eight Niassa province districts are still attending initiation rites two weeks after the start of the third and last term of the school year.
Most of the pupils attend primary school in Lichinga, Sanga, Majune, Chimbonila, Muembe, Ngaúma, Mandinba and Marrupa.
Head of education at the provincial directorate of Education and Human Development in Niassa, Amisse Corata, said that everything had been done to ensure initiation rites were not carried out during school terms this year.
