DH Mining Development Co., LDA, a Chinese company operating a graphite mine in Nipepe, Niassa province, has donated 16 air conditioning units to the local government and sunk boreholes in the village of Muiche, the epicentre of graphite exploration there, and in other areas.
Aware of the difficulty of accessing water locally, plus the dearth of access routes and employment opportunities, the company has rolled out a social responsibility programme with local communities.
Having researched local needs, DH Mining Development decided to sink a borehole and build a water supply system serving 300 to 400 residents of Muiche.
Similarly, observing that the main road in Nipepe was in poor condition at the end of the rainy season, the company sourced plant and labour to remediate it.
Local government meanwhile received the 16 air conditioning units.
The DH Mining enterprise is one of the largest investments in the Niassa mining sector in the past five years.
