The government of Niassa province says it will carry on banning the import of live chicken from neighbouring Malawi, as a safeguard for animal and public health.
The decision was reiterated this Thursday in Lichinga, by the provincial director of Agriculture and Fisheries in Niassa, Mijoia Júlio Raimundo Caetano.
Caetano was speaking at a meeting with operators in the chicken production and marketing chain.
The meeting was aimed at establishing mechanisms for harmonising the price of live chicken in the local market, which currently varies between 300 and 400 meticais.
Poultry farmers used the occasion to explain that the high cost of raw material was dictating the current price of live chicken in the province.
