The company Águas do Norte in Niassa currently registered a shortfall of more than five million meticais (US$78,375) from water loss due to mains ruptures, meter failure and consumer debts.
These problems mean that the company is unable to expand water distribution to new customers.
Despite this situation, Empresa Águas do Norte has increased water distribution in the cities of Lichinga and Cuamba from eight to ten-and-half hours a day.
The improvement results for a rise in the levels of abstraction in the water systems that supply the two cities.
The information was provided by the spokesman for the Council of Provincial Services for State Representation in Niassa, Vasco Ncole.
