Five communities from the district of Nipepe and another five from Metarica last week received their 20% fees for the exploitation of natural resources, in a total amount of 718,870.00 meticais.
The Secretary of State for Niassa province, Dinis Vilanculos, recommended that beneficiary communities prepare projects to meet priority needs.
The amounts were announced and delivered by Vilanculos at a meeting with Nipepe and Metarica residents, within the scope of monitoring the government’s Five Year Plan and the balance of its Economic and Social Plan in the first half of 2022..
“When you reach the communities, you must present the amount that the government has allocated and involve the population in choosing priorities for the benefit of the entire community,” the Secretary of State advised.
The beneficiaries were in turn unanimous in assuring the Secretary of State that they would use the amount allocated to solve problems besetting them, especially the “replacement of water holes that have fallen into disrepair”.
“For communities to continue to receive the 20% fee, they must ensure the conservation of the forests around them,” Vilanculos warns in the statement shared with AIM.
