Mozambique: Vaccine rejection threatens polio immunization of 680,000 children, Gaza Governor warns

The Ministry of Health (MISAU) on Monday (June 8) reported the diagnosis of nine new Covid-19 cases Cabo Delgado, Sofala, Maputo province and city, bringing the number of positive cases in Mozambique to 433.
@Verdade has also learned that the Total oil facilities on the Afungi Peninsula in Cabo Delgado are not yet free of the coronavirus.
National Director of Public Health Dr Rosa Marlene announced yesterday that, of 554 more tests between Sunday and Monday, “nine came back positive for Covid-19 infection. Therefore, we currently have 433 cumulative positive cases of Covid-19, of which 396 are local and 37 imported cases”.
“All new cases [reported on Monday] are of Mozambican nationality. We have one from Cabo Delgado province, one in Sofala, six in Maputo province and one in Maputo city. Eight cases are male and in the 15-34 age group. Of these, four are teenagers and young people in the 15-24 age group and four cases are young adults in the 25-34 age group,” Dr Rosa Marlene detailed.
The health authorities clarified that the citizen diagnosed in Cabo Delgado is a contact of a positive case at Palma district capital, while the citizen detected in Sofala province is a Mozambican returning from South Africa. The new positive Maputo city case was identified through active surveillance.
Of the six positive cases diagnosed in Maputo province, four are citizens who had returned from South Africa, one individual detected in active surveillance and another a contact of a positive case.
Only two samples from Nampula province were tested this Monday (June 8), with no new infections identified.
@Verdade has learned that Total oil facilities in Afungi are not yet completely free of the new coronavirus, with one positive case in the Afungi camp awaiting final clearance before being discharged.
Meanwhile, four patients were hospitalized in Nampula, all “stable and with good clinical outlook”. The individual hospitalised in Inhambane is also recovering well and will be discharged soon.
According to MISAU, the total number of recovered patients in Mozambique rose to 131 yesterday with the registration of four more healthy patients – three Mozambicans cured in home isolation, and a Brazilian who was hospitalised for a time.
