The South African police have adopted new regulations for drivers crossing land borders with with South African-registered vehicles.
Drivers must present documents proving the ownership of the vehicle or a certified copy of the license registration documents at border posts. Drivers who are not owners of the vehicle must provide a statement giving permission to take the vehicle across the border and indicating travel dates.
The documents must be authenticated and confirmed by the police.
“If the driver of the vehicle is not the owner of the vehicle, a police statement giving the authorization of the financial institution or owner to take the vehicle abroad is required. If the car is rented, the driver must have a letter from the car rental company to take it abroad,” the statement reads.
